What is a Masjid?

A Masjid is primarily understood as a local Islamic religious facility where Muslims gather for prayer, community activities, and religious education. It serves as a central place for congregational worship, particularly for the five daily prayers, as well as the Friday prayer, known as Jumu'ah. The function of a Masjid extends beyond just a place of worship; it often serves as a hub for community events, charity distribution, and educational programs, making it integral to the social and spiritual life of the Muslim community.

The other choices represent different aspects of Islamic practices and traditions, but they do not capture the essence of what a Masjid is. While a burial ground for Muslims does exist and is known as a cemetery, it differs significantly from a Masjid in function. Mourning ceremonies are typically cultural practices associated with grief rather than the gathering space and community focus of a Masjid. Similarly, while meditation is practiced in varied forms, it is not specifically associated with the function of a Masjid.
