"Words of Appreciation" in Buddhist services typically refer to a brief expression of gratitude directed towards the congregation for their presence and support during a time of mourning. This expression serves to acknowledge the communal aspect of the service, highlighting the importance of support from family and friends in the grieving process.

The context in which this occurs emphasizes community and compassion, which are core values in Buddhism. Sharing gratitude can provide comfort and build connections among attendees, reinforcing the collective nature of their mourning.

Other options involve elements that are not specifically associated with "Words of Appreciation." A formal eulogy, while significant in many cultures, is distinct from simply expressing thanks. Reading a religious text or offering a ceremonial blessing have their places within the service but do not encapsulate the essence of expressing appreciation for the presence of the congregation. Therefore, the focus on gratitude aligns seamlessly with the spirit of sharing and support found in Buddhist practices.
